INSTRUCTOR TRAINING

Here at Alpine Snowsports we offer a full instructor training program for those wishing to become an instructor or those already qualified and wishing to progress to a higher level. All our training is provided by highly experienced qualified instructors and coaches all holding qualifications with BASI (British Association of Snowsport Instructors), Snowsport Scotland or Snowsport England. Alpine Snowsports is a BASI Centre of excellence and associate member of Snowsports England. Alpine Snowsports has long been recognised as providing high quality tuition to all its customers and this is achieved by providing regular and quality instructor training.

How do I become an instructor?
We run a trainee instructor program for both Skiing and Snowboarding. These sessions are aimed at Skiers who can ski to a basic parallel standard and Snowboarders who can make linked turns from the top of our main slope. The minimum age for these sessions is 16 years for skiing and 18 years for snowboarding. Training will cover teaching techniques and personal performance skills in line with all the major training organisations in the UK. Training is tailored to give you the knowledge and skills required to qualify as an instructor.

There is an initial training program of 8 sessions and at the end of this period you will have an agreed action plan to further develop your skills in preparation for gaining your qualification, as well as advice on the best qualification for you. (The cost of this initial course is £80). Once the initial training course is completed training continues with the focus on developing further based on your action plan. Training takes place once a week normally on a Thursday evening for skiing and Tuesday evening for snowboarding.

Throughout the year we run information and induction sessions for those interested in joining our training program. To join one of these sessions please contact our booking office. The information/induction session is free of charge and the weekly training sessions following the initial training course cost between £7.50 & £10 per session depending on your commitment to the centre.

Information and induction session dates
Thursday 11th October 2007 7.30pm
Thursday 8th November 2007 7.30pm

To qualify you will need to attend training on a regular basis as well as completing required training and assessments run through the organisation you intend to qualify with, for dry slope qualifications assessments and training sessions are normally run here at the centre.

Further information on qualifications available in the UK can be found on the following web sites:

For those who already hold an instructor qualification we run a weekly training program aimed at further development of your personal skiing skills and teaching knowledge. These sessions run on a Monday evening and are free of charge to instructors who make themselves available to teach for the centre on a regular basis. For those who do not wish to make a commitment to teach for the centre there is a charge for of £10 per session on production of an up to date teaching qualification recognised by the home nation governing bodies?
